OLED: the most innovative lighting technology
Think about a flat, thin and semitransparent lighting source that
you can touch, you can look and you can interact with.
Switch off the lamp and light up the OLED
After the extraordinary success of the first edition with 600 participants from 50 countries around the world, the OLED Design Contest has come back. Create the ideal application for this revolutionary technology!
The contest winners will receive quite a rich prize and will be able to realize the prototype of theirs idea with PPML, the company leader in Europe in the research and development of new OLED applications.
First Prize for Professionals category € 8.000
First Prize for Students category € 2.000
In the lighting technology world a new era is coming. Great research results on the solid state lighting sources are pushing in order to accelerate the revolution. This new lighting source class is able to make complete new solutions and applications that would not be possible with the current ones.
The OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes), commonly defined as Organic LED, are thin film devices with an active layer typically lower than 500nm (500 millionths of millimetre).
CombOLED is a European funded research and development project within the 7th Framework Programme. The main goal of CombOLED is to combine new device structures, advantageous manufacturing approaches and less complex materials to achieve cost effective OLED lighting solutions. The cost reduction, together with transparency as a device feature, will enable a huge penetration of the OLED technology into the lighting market. This will help European lighting companies to maintain their leadership in this market at worldwide level.
The CombOLED Consortium resembles an entire OLED supply chain from substrate supply via device manufacturing until application design and prototype realization. The 7 partners are located in 4 countries all over Europe (France, Spain, Italy and Germany) and have been selected based on their high reputation in their own field. This conjoint effort coming from all the partners will guarantee the CombOLED project success and will breed a highly renowned OLED Consortium within Europe coordinated by Osram Opto Semiconductors.
The CombOLED project has a total budget of 7 M€ and it is partially funded by the European Committee under the Information and Communication Technologies call-scheme (ICT) of the Seventh Research Framework Programme (FP7).
